Locus is a travel companion that lets you capture moments, map your journeys, and share them with the people you choose. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the control you have over it. We try to keep it plain — if anything is unclear, reach out at hello@locus-social.com.
Information you give us
- Account details — your email, username, display name, and an optional avatar and bio.
- Content you create — photos, captions, pins, journeys, comments, and the travel moments you save.
- Choices you set — who can see each post (public, friends, or only you), and your notification and permission preferences.
Information we collect as you use Locus
- Location — when you grant permission, we use your device location to place pins on the map, surface nearby places, and check you in to planned stops. You can turn this off at any time in your device settings.
- Camera & photos — when you grant permission, so you can capture and attach photos. We only access what you choose to add.
- Device & usage data — basic information such as app version, device type, and how features are used, so we can keep Locus stable and improve it.
How we use your information
- To provide the core experience — mapping your moments, building journeys, and showing them to the audience you chose.
- To personalize features such as your Traveler DNA and place recommendations.
- To send the notifications you opt into, like likes, comments, and new followers.
- To keep accounts secure, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.
How your information is shared
Your content is shared with other people according to the visibility you set on each item — nothing more. We do not sell your personal information. We share data only:
- With other users, per your per-post visibility settings.
- With service providers who help us run Locus (for example, hosting and crash reporting) under agreements that limit their use of it.
- When required by law, or to protect the safety of people or the service.
Your rights and choices
- Access and edit your profile and content at any time in the app.
- Manage permissions — location, camera, and notifications can be changed whenever you like in Settings or your device settings.
- Delete your account — this permanently removes your journeys, captured moments, badges, and settings.
- Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/UK or California), you may have additional rights to access, correct, export, or delete your data. Contact us to exercise them.
Data retention
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your personal content from our systems, except where we must retain limited records to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.
Security
We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit, to protect your information. No service can guarantee perfect security, but we work to keep your data safe and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.
Children
Locus is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Locus evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, let you know in the app.
